A cleaner working for an elderly woman in the Italian province of Treviso threw away an old mattress containing cash and jewellery worth 50,000 euros. This is reported by the local edition of Tribuna di Treviso.
The woman regularly cleaned the house of a lady of advanced age, but this time her cleaning turned out to be a loss of huge funds. She decided to get rid of an antique mattress found in the storeroom and took it to a large waste collection point. The missing mattress was noticed the same day by the homeowner's daughter, who raised the alarm and contacted the carabinieri.
Volunteers from the civil defence service and recycling staff were involved in the search for the missing mattress. An hour later, the missing mattress was found in a large rubbish bin. The mattress filled with jewellery, cash and even credit cards was returned to its owners safe and sound. The family thanked volunteers and carabinieri for their help in finding the ‘golden’ mattress.
