Despite his fabulous wealth, the investment tycoon and philanthropist lives very modestly, keeps his money in the bank and does not spoil himself with golden toilets and mobile phones with diamond-encrusted cases. Nevertheless, he has a few curiosities that can surprise and even shock everyone.
This man began his investment career at the age of eleven by getting involved in the stock market. His infallible instincts and incredible luck earned him the nickname Oracle of Omaha. As the permanent captain of his own business ship called Berkshire Hathaway since 1970, he is still listed among the ten richest people in the world with a net worth of 104 billion dollars - while he regularly donates a significant portion of his fortune to charity.
Philanthropy is probably Mr Buffett's biggest expense, which has allowed him to stay on top despite the vicissitudes of life as an investor. Today, Warren is the largest owner of equity capital, having a small but solid share in the most important companies in various industries around the world.
The lifestyle of this man is such that he does not need a lot of things, he is satisfied with little. But some things are really unique and explain the character of our hero from unexpected positions.
Intellectual literature
Among the most valuable of his possessions, the businessman considers books to be the most valuable. In his office, bedroom and other places, there is always a stack of books on the floor next to his chair, but they are all just a shadow of the huge library hidden in the bowels of the house.
The businessman calls daily reading one of the important components of his own success: every next morning you will meet smarter and a little wiser. At the beginning of his career Buffett used to swallow a thousand pages a day, but with age he has tempered his reading appetite and is ‘limited’ to five hundred.
The businessman suggests that the information obtained from literature should be considered a deferred investment or a savings account with compound interest: they will definitely help you in the future and will be profitable, it is only important to wait.
Mobile phone
A man from the top 10 of the most wealthy people in the world is surprised that for a long time he has been using a folding mobile phone from Samsung - SCH-U320 for some twenty quid. And this despite the fact that Berkshire Hathaway owns 5.6% of the company with an apple on the logo, whose market value exceeds 70 billion dollars.
Only last year, when his beloved Samsung ran out of batteries and spare parts, the conservative businessman went for a cellphone upgrade, buying himself a brand new iPhone 11. The huge functionality of the handset remains unclaimed, because Buffett uses the mobile phone exclusively for calls, neglecting additional functionality.
It should be noted that buying a new device is a very serious step, given that the price of a new handset is more than 30 times higher than the old one.
Bespoke suits
Another unusual and unparalleled item on the list is tailor-made suits. The story of their appearance is connected with a trip to the People's Republic of China. When he lived in Shanghai, his suit was measured and the next day they showed him several models to choose from. As it eventually turned out, local designer Madame Li was eager to present him with a suit. He picked out a couple - and made his acquaintance with the lady. Now he has more than 20 different suits from this author, the price per piece ranges from six hundred to eight thousand dollars.
By the way, Madame Lee is also dressing the founder of Microsoft, Bill Gates, so rumors of democracy and an old jumper for thirty quid are somewhat exaggerated.
Real estate
The prophet stays true to his roots and lives in the same house that was bought half a century ago for $13,500. At the moment its price has approached 652 thousand. In Buffett's own words, this is the best investment in his life - after two wives.
The two-thousand-square-foot building consists of five bedrooms and three bathrooms, a living room and a huge library. It's all enclosed by a high fence with video surveillance and numerous sensors to keep outsiders out.
He used to have a house in Laguna Beach, California, but a few years ago he sold it for $7,500,000: it was bought for his late wife, Susan.
Cars
It is believed that the businessman is not peculiar to the craving for luxury cars, but one thing in his garage is definitely there. It is about the Cadillac XTS of 2014. This model appeared at Buffett thanks to the personal advice of Mary Barra: persistence CEO GM persuaded to change the old model in 2006 to this one, despite the insignificant by American standards mileage of 46,000 kilometers. And the previous ‘Cadillac’ was given as a donation to the social organization Girls Inc; they sold the model through auction for $123,000.
Private aircraft
The most expensive acquisition on this list is a luxury private jet that belongs to our hero. It was purchased from one of the companies whose shares Berkshire owns. Since the aircraft was second-hand, the cost does not seem to be limitless; we are talking about ‘only’ 850 thousand dollars.
