The fastest cars are racing cars. But it is forbidden to drive them on public roads. We have collected cars with sporty characteristics, on which you can legally and very quickly drive around the city.
SSC Tuatara
Engine 5.9 litres, V8 Power 1750 hp. Acceleration to 100 km/h 2.5 seconds Top speed 508.7 km/h Price $1,600,000
The project of the American company SSC North America appeared back in 2011, and the first production model was presented in 2018. At the time of testing, the model was not yet a production model, so the record was counted in another category. After that, the company said it would produce 100 examples of the mid-engined hypercar. Later tests showed a peak speed of 455 km/h, which did not suit the engineers and the car was sent for rework.
The company claims that the supercar can run on regular petrol with an octane rating of 91. But then its power will be reduced to 1,350 hp.
Bugatti Chiron Super Sport 300+
Engine 8 litres, W16 Power 1600 hp. Acceleration to 100 km/h 2.5 seconds Top speed 490.5 km/h Price €3,500,000
The Bugatti Chiron Super Sport 300+ version was produced in an edition of 30 copies. The numbers in the name are not just marketing. They indicate the top speed of the sports car in miles - over 300. Bugatti therefore claims that the Super Sport 300+ is the fastest production car in the world. But there is a caveat: the speed record was recorded on a car that has significant design differences from the base sports car. For example, it was fitted with adaptive suspension with laser sensors. This allows to change the height of ground clearance and keep it at the minimum mark.
Serial models of Super Sport 300+ accelerate ‘only’ to 440 km/h, and then an electronic limiter is triggered. But when buying a hypercar, the owner gets the opportunity to drive on the Volkswagen racing circuit. Then the company's specialists will install a safety cage and temporarily remove the speed limiter.
Koenigsegg Agera RS
Engine 5 litres, V8 Power 1360 hp. Acceleration to 100 km/h 2.9 seconds Top speed 447 km/h Price €2,000,000
The Swedish hypercar has long been at the top of the ranking of the fastest cars. The model was tested not on a proving ground or a race track, but on an ordinary motorway in the state of Nevada. According to the rules, there are two races - one way and the other way, and then calculate the average peak speed. In this case, during one of the races, the speed reached 457 km/h.
The 0-400-0 Koenigsegg Agera RS passed the 0-400-0 acceleration test in 33.29 seconds. In total, the company produced 25 copies of the hypercar.
Hennessey Venom F5
Engine 6.6 litre, V8 Power 1842 hp. Acceleration to 100 km/h 2.6 seconds Top speed 437 km/h Price $2 100 000.
The project from the American company Hennessey Special Vehicles was conceived as a competitor to Bugatti, SSC and Koenigsegg models. The maximum speed that the hypercar showed at the tests in Florida, engineers consider insufficient. Therefore, the systems of the car are being finalised.
Venom F5 is equipped with a V-shaped eight-cylinder engine with a cast-iron block and aluminium heads. And it also has multimedia with navigation, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. A total of 36 cars are planned to be assembled.
9ff GT9 Vmax
Engine 4.2 litres Power 1400 hp. Acceleration to 100 km/h 3.1 seconds Top speed 420 km/h Price €900,000
9ff is a German company that specialises in tuning Porsche cars. The GT9 Vmax project is based on the Porsche 911 (997) in the GT3 version. The model was not just refined, but redesigned. For example, from a rear-engined sports car the car turned into a mid-engined one. A total of 150 GT9 models were produced in various modifications and with different powertrains.
Rimac Nevera
Engine 4 electric motors Power 1914 hp. Acceleration to 100 km/h 1.81 seconds Top speed 415 km/h Price €2,000,000
The Croatian electric hypercar in 2023 set 23 records in a single day of racing. Each wheel is driven by a separate electric motor. The car covers a quarter of a mile in 8.25 seconds, which is comparable to the performance of a racing car. It also takes just 29.94 seconds to accelerate from a standing start to 400 kilometres per hour and brake to a complete stop.
Dauer 962 Le Mans
Engine 3 litres Power 720 hp. Acceleration to 100 km/h 2.8 seconds Top speed 405 km/h Price $1 200 000.
Dauer 962 Le Mans is technically a Porsche 962, which participated in the 24 Hours of Le Mans. The civilian version was adapted for travelling on public roads and comfortable operation. For example, the ground clearance was increased, leather trimmed seats and electric windows were added.
Dauer 962 Le Mans is considered to be one of the first civilian cars, the maximum speed of which exceeds 400 km/h. This model was produced in small series - only 13 such cars were produced.
