Luca Bravo is questioning whether he wants to continue starring in ‘Emily in Paris.’ The actor told IndieWire in an interview that playing the character is ‘no longer interesting.’
Bravo complained that the direction of his character has changed a lot since the series premiere. ‘Sexy Chef was a part of me in the first season, and we drifted apart season after season because of his choices and the direction he was forced to take. I was never that far away from him,’ he said.
According to the actor, the first season ‘had a lot of me in Gabriel,’ but since then he has been ‘unaware of his surroundings’ and ‘constantly victimised.’ Bravo noted that his Gabriel is manipulated by everyone, which made shooting on the show uninteresting for him.
‘It became uninteresting for me to film and see a character I love so much and who has brought me so much slowly turn into guacamole. I really distanced myself from him,’ Bravo said of Gabriel's role in recent seasons.
The actor emphasised that he had expressed concern about his character, but there was only so much he could do within the confines of the script. ‘I tried for a few seasons to bring in nuances, but we don't have a lot of freedom on set. We can't change the words or the emotions. They know what they want and all we have to do is obey. It makes me question whether I want to be a part of season five <...> because my contract ended on season four.
I really want to see Gabrielle return to her fun, feisty, playful, lively self. Because three seasons of playing melancholic, sad, depressed and lost is no longer fun. It's comedy, everyone's having fun around me, everyone's jumping around, and I'm just slowly sinking into God knows what,’ he said.
The fourth season of ‘Emily in Paris’ topped Netflix's top 10 after premiering in August and has since stayed on the list for four consecutive weeks. In it, Emily had an affair with Italian heir Marcello and then moved into an Italian flat to open an Agence Grateau office in Rome.
