The US position regarding the strikes by US weapons supplied to the AFU on Russian territory remains unchanged, Pentagon spokesman Patrick Ryder has said. So he answered the question whether it is planned to reconsider the restrictions amid calls by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.
‘Our policy does not change. Ukraine can use US military assistance for self-defence against cross-border attacks and for return fire. However, as far as long-range strikes, strikes deep into Russia, our policy remains the same,’ Mr Ryder said at a briefing.
The day before, Politico reported that Ukrainian officials had drawn up a list of potential targets for strikes on Russian territory. It is planned to be handed over to top officials of the US National Security Service. According to the newspaper, in order to hit the targets, it is necessary for Washington to lift the ban on the use of long-range weapons for strikes on Russia.
In May, it became known that US President Joe Biden had lifted the ban on Ukraine's use of US weapons for strikes on Russian territory. It was about strikes with HIMARS launchers and GMLRS guided multiple launch rocket systems. At the same time, the use of long-range ATACMS missiles for attacks on Russian territory is still prohibited.
