 1. Thurso, Scotland

 Thurso is one of the smallest towns in the world, and it is in Scotland (United Kingdom). The population of Thurso was just over 100 people as of the 2011 Census.

With a population density of only 0.5 people per square mile, Thurso is one of the most sparsely populated towns in Great Britain and one of the most remote communities located approximately 240 miles from Edinburgh and 1,260 miles from London. Thurso’s primary economic activity is tourism, with visitors coming to see the unique landscape and history of the town. 

2. Westport, Massachusetts, USA

Westport is the smallest town in the United States by population. It is also the most densely populated town in New England, with over 9,000 residents per square mile. The town was first settled in 1630 and has since grown to include a variety of businesses and cultural attractions. The town center features a small harbor where boats can be rented for tours of the surrounding coastline. The waterfront also offers opportunities for fishing and swimming. However, Keene maintains a small-town feel with its historic district and proximity to other communities. Keene was founded in 1792 as part of the New Hampshire Grants land grant to Captain Josiah Bartlett. The town was named after General John Wentworth, who served in the American Revolution. The downtown area features several buildings from the 1800s including the Old Stone Jail and Town Hall.

Bar Harbor was first settled by European settlers in 1765. At that time, it was known as Westport and was a small fishing village. Over the years, it has grown into a popular tourist destination thanks to its picturesque harbor and mountains backdrop.
