Infectious disease doctor Sergei Voznesensky told VM that Marburg fever can be contracted through unwashed fruit.
According to him, it is possible to get infected with Marburg fever through bananas and other fruits if the necessary sanitary norms were not observed.
‘All fruits and vegetables that we buy in the shop should be washed with water and soap before consumption,’ Voznesensky said.
He emphasised that this would help minimise the chances of contracting the virus if it is present on the fetal skin.
Voznesensky noted that the food route is not the only way to contract the fever. The virus can be transmitted through close contact with an infected or infected animal.
The expert added that it is very difficult to get infected with fever by airborne route. According to the infectious disease specialist, it can happen if an immunocompromised person comes in contact with an infected person.
